It appears my previous episode’s observation, that “M*A*S*H” has finally gotten on track, is correct.
This one perfectly mixes the comedy and relevance, perfectly uses the cast… it’s just a joy.
The great part is how well everything “M*A*S*H” has is utilized–Trapper and Hawkeye get scenes (Trapper getting a great moment at the end, after everything was Hawkeye-centered for a bit), Frank and Margaret get scenes, Henry and Radar get scenes.
Alda’s got some fantastic moments in here–a lot of his comedy work suggests he’s a missing Marx descendent.
The script’s also has these little things–Radar’s imaginery friend as a child (a girl, who looks just like Radar, only with “these tiny breasts”) and then, of course, Radar getting to join Hawkeye for a martini at the end.

I’m slightly bewildered why they created Tuttle at all. In the first scene there’s a suggestion that what Hawkeye and Trapper are doing is illegal, so I thought they were trying to cover themselves if their good work got out, but that doesn’t fit with later events, so we’re left with the fairly weak excuse that they didn’t want anyone to know of their good deed.
