Two car chases in this episode, the first being a truck chasing a car, the second being at night (doesn’t anyone ever get hurt–bystanders–in private detective show car chases).
The mystery’s decent, with some good scenes–Jim’s trip to Arizona is all summary except the chase, which is a little disappointing–and lots of good comedic moments.
The problem is with Jim’s employer, Beth the lawyer (who I think becomes a repeat guest), simply because their relationship doesn’t work. She’s independently wealthy but cheats him out of his money. He knows she’s going to cheat him out of his money, but still works for her (and talks to her). There’s some suggestion of a previous romance… except Rockford’s financial situation is dire, so he must have some good-paying cases between episodes to be able to afford even his expenses on this particular case.
