Ashes to Ashes 1×7 “Episode 7″

March 21st, 2008 · No Comments

The first series whimpers along–hard to believe the next episode is the last of the series, since almost nothing has happened–toward the finish line. There’s some teasing this episode might have big, momentous events. I’m guessing my tone is all the spoiler needed.

Some decent scenes for Gene. A couple almost decent ones for Alex–had this episode been the second or, at the outside, third, they would have been good (and appropriately timed). Ray and Chris have some funny scenes, which isn’t the same thing as good. Ray’s character development is now a distant memory.

A big problem with the series is how unbelievable Alex’s character is–and how little suspense for the series closer these episodes create–first, she’s not trying to prevent the thing she’s dreading (she is a police detective after all, she could be trying to solve something). But it’s how she doesn’t trust Gene’s instincts, which are always right (and I think last episode she told him to always listen to them) and how naive she gets. Anytime she says something about a case contrary to Gene’s instincts, it’s a car horn she’s getting duped again.

There’s also the problem her supporting cast–not the cops, but her mother and the lawyer friend–are unappealing. Regardless of their inappropriateness, Gene and the boys are the good guys.

It’s hard to believe they’ll pull this one around for the finish.
