I’m looking up synonyms for “limp” to describe this close to the first series. Instead of concentrating on the case–hell, the crack detectives who can’t get out an APB (I mean, the British must have something similar) also ignore a third murder suspect, but who cares… since they’re closing up the mystery from the first episode. Now, if they really wanted to do a miniseries, if they really wanted a serial… the cases would develop concurrently. A little of one in the first episode, more of another, and a wee bit of the third. But no. No, instead, it’s a case an episode and then the dumb connecting story line, which dominates this third episode.
Sadly, this episode features Adam Kotz’s best (i.e. finally good) work for the entire series.
Additionally, the mystery is idiotic–it’s another one of those internet hysteria stories, featuring teenagers turned into murderers through the internet (and acid… lots of acid).
There’s a solid subplot about a convicted murderer helping the team, all for a day outside (she’s got a life sentence). Of course, because the show’s so busy wrapping up loose ends, we don’t even get to see how she spends the day.
Idiotic.
The close is particularly awful, as it does nothing to resolve the case or the episode, just threatens an inevitable sequel.
